Our favourite cinema

We just can't stop banging on about our fabulous local cinema, the Kino at Hawkhurst. It is supremely comfortable with huge seats that you can recline into without disturbing the people behind. There is nearly always an excellent choice of movies on offer and the cafe, filled with local artwork, serves yummy cakes and gorgeous coffee as well as well chosen wines and beers. This is a popcorn free zone - strictly enforced! - so does not suit all film fans (like my sons!). I highly recommend Rush, which follows the rivalry between James Hunt and Nikki Lauda as they battled for the Formula One world championship in the 1970s.

Even though we knew the story it was still full of tension and excitement. The actors taking on these two strong characters were absolutely excellent. It was also fun looking out for Polly Furnival, daughter in law of one of our owners! She played a girl who kissed James Hunt so there were rather too many contenders to be quite sure we'd identified her correctly! Then I went to see Woody Allen's new film, Blue Jasmine, which has been extremely well reviewed and Cate Blanchette is completely superb as the newly impoverished wife of a Bernie Madoff type fraudster. She deserves an Oscar.
