One of our favourite vineyards is very close by at Biddenden. It is the oldest vineyard in Kent and produces some exceptional wines and ciders. They offer free guided tours of the extensive vineyards on selected dates which offer a chance to enjoy a walk through beautiful countryside as well as learn some fascinating facts and insights into viticulture. Eleven varieties of grapes are grown producing some superb still and sparkling wines which you can sample in the shop. It is a lovely friendly place run by the delightful Barnes family and the shop is full of their delicious wines, ciders and apple juice as well as some other local food including sausages and cheese. My personal favourite tipples are the white Ortega and the Gribble Bridge Sparkling Rose. Unfortunately, the excellence of the Pinot Noir was quickly discovered by a famous chef (I believe it was Raymond Blanc) who bought every last case but the Dornfelder is another excellent red wine worth tasting.
