The Sportsman – The Best Kept Secret?

The Sportsman in Seasalter has a fabulous menu, full of locally sourced produce, including local oysters. Booking is most certainly essential , up to 6 weeks in advance for a weekend reservation, weekdays not so much a problem but book to be on the safe side. You can take a leisurely stroll along the shingle beach before lunch or dinner, to built up a healthy appetite – you most certainly need to be hungry as three different types of homemade bread and butter are served at the beginning of lunch with olives. The Sportsman has 2 menus. The first is chalked up on the board and is changed daily depending on the ingredients that come from the farms, boats and game dealers. The second is a tasting menu which is designed to be a showcase for the local environment and the ingredients that are source from it. The outside of the pub is undergoing a bit of maintenance at the moment with scaffolding and bits and bobs lying around, however don’t be put off – stop, park and go in, as once inside it becomes clear as to why you were recommended to book a table at this gastro pub! The food is delicious! Why not make a weekend of it and really get to know the area, we have some lovely cottages available in the area.
