The Railway Tavern in Staplehurst is a pub that has been avoided by the locals until recently, but after walking past several times recently, noticed a lot more people in the bar. It is now a really friendly family owned pub serving real pub food at very realistic prices and all home made. Fortunately, we choose the night when they had live music on an open mike basis. Several local musicians took turns to play drums, keyboard or just sing along with the 2 guys that set the whole thing up. This led to a varied range of music at different levels, but nothing cringingly bad and a really friendly atmosphere. These sessions are held every 6- 8 weeks, so if you are a budding musician , I would suggest making sure you are there on the night, if not it is just a great place for a bite to eat and a few drinks.
