Saturday 14th June to Saturday 21st June is the annual Broadstairs Dickens Week. If you haven’t been before mark a day in your diary, it’s a fascinating event, fun for all the family. Broadstairs is my home town so this festival is one of many things to do with the town which is close to my heart.
Most of the shops and residents get in the spirit of the week by wearing Victorian dress. The procession starts at the top of Broadstairs High Street at Pierremont Hall and walking down the High Street to the Victoria Gardens which is situated overlooking the famous Viking Bay, where the main events continue throughout each day. It’s an amazing atmosphere and will make you feel as if you’ve gone back in time. The festival has been running since the late 1930’s and incorporates the famous Bleak House, where Charles Dickens wrote some of his famous novels including David Copperfield and The Pickwick Papers.
So if you want to enjoy some history, maybe enjoy a Cream Tea on the green and listen to Victorian music playing on the bandstand.
