I had a great day out at Walmer Castle on Saturday. The house which was once the residence of Duke of Wellington is open to explore – you can even see the bedroom as it was when the Duke died. The gardens are a really lovely mix of formal gardens with ornamental pond, picnic area, croquet lawn and even a woodland walk. You can see why it was the Queen Mother’s favourite place to visit. No visit is complete without a visit to the tea rooms where you can have delicious home-made scones, still warm from the oven with a refreshing cup of tea.
