Following Churchill's Footsteps

At the beginning of July, I visited Blenheim Palace where Winston Churchill was born and proposed to Clementine. So, on Saturday I took the opportunity to follow on the Churchill “theme” and visited Chartwell. Not only is there the house to visit and the beautiful gardens but there is a special exhibition to commemorate his death 50 years ago. There is also his studio where numerous paintings are displayed. I was then rather surprised to find on Sunday evening that the Country File programme was recorded at The Kent County show and within the programme was a feature on Churchill and they visited Chartwell.

I was then further surprised that after that programme was Fake or Fortune where they were researching a painting that was painted by Winston Churchill and again showed Chartwell including his studio. So where next? Perhaps a visit to Dover Castle, where you can visit the war time tunnels which include an underground hospital and command centre where Winston Churchill controlled war time operations. Further tunnels have recently been opened to the public.
