The farmland has chalk soil and with the land also being south-facing, is perfect for wine production. It is ideal for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vinesTaittinger the champagne producer has teamed up with British wine agent Hatch Mansfield to buy the farmland near Chilham in Kent. They have 80 years’ experience in the wine making trade and believe that they can produce a high quality English sparkling wine.
Other British vineyards such as Nyetimber in West Sussex, Chapel Down in Kent and Denbies in Surrey already produce award-winning wines on chalky soil similar to that found in the Champagne region.Kent and Sussex Holiday Cottages would like to wish them all the very best and we will look forward to sampling the first bottles that they produce.
