Cycling Around Kent

Kent is a fantastic holiday destination if you enjoy cycling.  It has a tremendous variety of cycle routes from woodland trails and riverside paths, to coastal trails taking in clifftops and blue flag beaches.  Whether you are looking for family friendly cycling or something a little more challenging, there is something for everyone, and we have plenty of lovely cottages to peddle home to in the evening.

Popular inland cycling destinations include Bedgebury Forest near Goudhurst, which has a 10km family cycle trail (amongst others) and 12km of single track mountain bike trails through the forest.  You can easily spend the whole day or more exploring this beautiful 2,000 acre forest.  If you would like to factor in a bit of history, why not chose the Tudor Trail from Tonbridge Castle, with its 900 year history, through beautiful countryside to stunning Penshurst Place.  Alternatively, try the Crab & Winkle Way – a route starting in Canterbury with its magnificent cathedral and historic buildings, taking you to Whitstable on the coast, where you can enjoy some delicious fruits of the sea, including the famous Whitstable oysters.

Kent has a stunning and varied coastline and it is possible to cycle almost the entire length of it along clifftops and beside beautiful beaches.  The Oyster Bay Trail takes you from Herne Bay to Reculver, where you can pick up the Viking Coast Trail.  This 51km trail takes you around the coast of the Isle of Thanet from the striking views across the flat marshland at Reculver, through Birchington and on to Margate where you can enjoy the harbour and the Turner Contemporary.  Pass scenic Joss and Botany bays and maybe stop for a refreshing dip, before heading to Broadstairs and on to Ramsgate.  It is worth noting that the north Kent train line follows the coast, so you can chose a starting point and go as far along as you like before catching the train back, if you run out of steam!  Whilst the Viking Trail stops just beyond Ramsgate it is possible to cycle on to Sandwich, Deal, Walmer and all the way to Rye in East Sussex and beyond!

So get on your bike and book your holiday with us today!
