Claire’s Cottage is a true treasure; a charming ragstone home built some 200 years ago amidst a secluded terrace of five. Originally a workman’s cottage, it is now a delightful romantic hideaway for two. Containing many of its original features, the cottage has been comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated and has a wood-burning stove for those cosy autumnal evenings in. The pretty garden is a tranquil sun trap, providing the perfect spot for outdoor dining or relaxing with a drink and a book amongst the bird song. There are three golf courses nearby, several beaches (including sandy ones) tennis, cricket, bowls, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Popular seaside restaurants overlooking the bay provide panoramic views should you prefer a glass of wine and calamari, while watching others enjoy the variety of water sports.

Out and About:
Claire’s cottage is a perfect base with many options for a wonderful holiday. The fine old seaside town of Hythe grew up around the military canal which was built in 1904 as part of the defences against Napoleon. It is now a quiet central waterway on which to fish or row. The pretty tree lined tow path is perfect for walking and cycling and extends to the seaside promenade should you wish to continue along the sweeping bay east toward Folkestone or follow the canal in the other direction toward Romney Marsh and Rye. The channel tunnel is 4.8 miles away, and Dover with its magnificent castle standing guard over the port and the sea crossing to the Continent. To the west is Romney Marsh, famous for its sheep and unique habitat, containing Europe’s only official desert at Dungeness, which is a must for bird watchers. Further to the west is the picturesque medieval town of Rye, famous for its link with E.W. Benson who based his famous book ‘Mapp and Lucia’ around Rye. Inland, follow the route of Thomas Beckett’s murderous knights from Saltwood Castle to the glory of Canterbury Cathedral. Take the high-speed train to London, or Eurostar from the International station at Ashford to Paris, Brussels or Lille.
Claire's Cottage is a delightful place to stay. There is lots to see and do in and around Hythe. The local bus services are very good and I would be happy to return and explore further. I would love to stay at Claire's Cottage once again.
This is a lovely, cosy cottage. Spotlessly clean, well maintained and equipped. In quiet location and ideal for couples. I would say a car would be recommended for most although there is an excellent bus service close by. I would certainly consider staying again if visiting the Hythe area.
Small and comfortable. Just what we like.
We have enjoyed our stay very much in this beautiful cottage. The home owner provides everything which is needed plus a few delightful touches ie fresh flowers and a delicious cream tea which makes it all a bit more special. This has been our first trip to Hythe and found it to be a delightful little town and full of character. I would not hesitate to recommend Claire's cottage and Hythe as a perfect get away for two. Thank you.
A lovely cottage and superb garden. Beautifully quiet and restful. We do not drive, so the walks up and down the steep hills (and occasional use of the No 10 bus from Saltwood village green) kept us fit! A promising pub with new owners - The Castle - in Saltwood. Keep up the good work!
Would like to say what a lovely cottage and how well equipped it was. It was like a home from home. Hythe is a lovely place and it was our first time here. but we will be back. We found your renovation book really interesting and a nice touch.
Thank you for another much needed break away. The cottage was immaculate with every little thing thought of. We came for the Hythe Venetian fete - that was something to behold! I know we both truly love Hythe, so here is to next time!
Coming here was a very late booking due to circumstances beyond our control ,but we have had a delightful time in this charming cottage with excellent weather to match. We have been to Hythe before but never more than for a day, so to have a whole week to explore the area and visit friends that we have not seen for many years rounded off a near perfect holiday. the cottage and all it features were everything we needed in having the ideal setting for a total relaxing break from our very busy lives. Thank you to the home owner.
Beautiful, clean cottage.
I really don't know what to say that hasn't been said already. Your cottage has to be the prettiest, cutest place we have ever stayed in. Positively pristine in every way! Thank you for the lovely flowers and delicious cream tea. It was lovely to meet you. We have had a wonderful short break here in sleepy Saltwood and wanted for nothing- you have thought of everything. Will recommend and hope to return soon.
After a long journey down on the hottest day so far of this year, we were very pleased to find such a cool, beautiful cottage. thank you for the cream tea. We have enjoyed ourselves and have been very fortunate to have such fabulous weather. Thank you again.
We've had a very nice few days here, the cottage is lovely, just the job for the two of us! Enjoyed Folkestone especially.
I've been staying in cottages for many years and Claire's Cottage is my favourite so far. Despite being tiny it is light, comfortable, cosy and very well equipped with a pretty garden. It has been restored beautifully retaining nearly all the original and historic features and it's interesting to look at the album showing photos of the restoration. The location is excellent. You can walk into Hythe (if you have the energy to walk back up the hill) which is a historic little town of great character and there are plenty of interesting places to see in the Romney Marshes without having to go far. If you have a wet day use it to go to Dungeness on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway! I have already recommended this cottage to a friend and I am sure I shall visit it again in the future.
I've enjoyed my stay in this delightful cottage. Lovely to sit in the garden and enjoy the cream tea provided. Many thanks for such a charming and well equipped cottage.
Had a really wonderful week in the delightful and cosy cottage. It was a lovely base from which to discover ( and revisit) the local sites. Hope to be back soon.
