Description

This property has a fascinating history and was once lived in by a shoemaker and his family for many years while the main house used to be a coaching inn.  The Old Cobblers Cottage at Kings Head House has now been beautifully restored and furnished to create a wonderful base to explore Kent.  The property is attached to the owner's medieval hall house and offers spacious and bright accommodation full of original beams and antique furniture.  There is a wood burning stove in the sitting room for cosy evenings around the fire and there is a separate snug TV room for relaxing or listening to music.  Outside the chimney stack is a focal point and was copied by Vita Sackville West and used in her design at Sissinghurst Castle - the castle and gardens are minutes away.  You can walk to the village pub which offers a great selection of food and drink and there is a general store across the road.  Close by are the Wealden towns of Cranbrook and Tenterden and historic Rye is only a short drive away.  Kent is known as the Garden of England for good reason and there are numerous local vineyards and farm shops to explore. From golf courses and beaches to forest walks and cycle paths this really is an all round holiday destination.

Reviews

Lovely house with a great feel to it. Good central location for visits in area. WiFi great! Twin beds slept nice but double bed slightly small and unleveled due to old floors. This is also the charm of the house. Transfers you back to other times in the good sense of the word. Owners very kind and spoiled us with great cake and wine.

Mr Emiel Van de Werf,

Such a gorgeous rustic little cottage. Very well equipped and meticulously clean. We would love to stay again. Prepare for sloping floors and beams galore!

Mrs Jane Niles,

The cottage is very conveniently located and perfect for day trips. All sights are just a stone's throw away. The owners are very nice people and obviously went out of their way to make the cottage as comfortable as possible. The have built soundproof windows, so the road is barely audible. What we might have wished for, would be a slightly more modern hob, as we are passionate cooks. We really enjoyed the fireplace and the abundant logs. The beds are good and the bathroom very comfortable. The decor is exceptionally good, there was even a folding game table!

Karin Rehrl,

Excellent. One of the best properties we have enjoyed for a holiday stay.

Dr James Carlton,

Warm welcome. Great location for visiting Kent and the gardens.

Mr Frank Hendriks,

The cottage was in the middle of Kent, a perfect spot for exploring. Where ever we went the journeys were never longer than 45-60 mins. Excellent location. We used the website, as well as the owners book to find out about different sites to see. We had not appreciated the uneven floors upstairs or the old staircase, but we quickly adjusted. (Being over 70, and a little unsteady on our feet, it probably took us longer)
