Out and about:

Readers Retreat is situated in St. Michaels, very close to the famous Kent Biddenden Vineyard and a short distance to historic Tenterden which is known locally as the Jewel in the Weald.  Tenterden has two supermarkets, many restaurants, cafes and pubs.  It also has a leisure centre.  It is home to the Kent and East Sussex Railway which steams through the countryside for 11.5 miles, stopping at Northiam which is perfect for Bodiam Castle.  There are many National Trust properties and famous gardens locally including Great Dixter House and Gardens, Hole Park, Sissinghurst Castle to name a few. Bodiam Boating Station has a cafe and hires canoes and boats as well as boat trips along the River Rother. Rye and the Sussex coastline are only a short drive away and the area has fishing lakes and golf courses. Apart from Biddenden Vineyard, there are a few other well-know vineyards, such as Chapel Down and Hush Heath which are part of the Vineyard Tour, offering tastings of their local wines and beers.

A spacious and comfortable property, a lovely country outlook from the terrace and close enough to Tenterden to walk across the fields for supper or a coffee there. Amanda, our host, was extremely helpful.

Mr F,

This was a return visit for us having stayed in 2011, and it felt like coming home! The property is spotless and has everything you require, in a quiet, beautiful and peaceful setting. It is wonderful to be able to listen to and observe the birds....woodpeckers, great tits, pheasant etc...and the squirrel trying to steal the nuts! Readers Retreat is ideally situated to visit many interesting places...Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Bodiam Castle, Scotney Castle and many vineyards to name a few. Tenterden is a 40 min walk across the fields if you wish and is an interesting well equipped friendly town with good shops and restaurants. There is also an excellent farm shop with café just up the road. We thoroughly enjoyed revisiting places and finding new ones. It was also good to see Amanda again and catch up on news, we shouldn’t leave it so long next time! We highly recommend Readers Retreat.

Previous Customer,

Lovely location, appreciated the peace and quiet plus beauty around us. Accommodation was comfortable clean and everything worked. Thank you Amanda for the little touches like leaving some items of grocery for us and the bouquet of wild flowers. Feel really refreshed after our break in glorious Kent.

Past Customer,

We had wonderful days in your cottage! Thank you very much for your kind hospitality. We wish you all the best.

Previous Customer,

My daughter and I stayed at Readers Retreat for a week and had a great time! The Cottage was immaculately clean and super comfortable. The location was perfect for us; pictureque and quiet. We spent a lot of time visiting family by the coast, which was an easy drive. It was so nice to return in the evenings to the cottage, which was a sanctuary of tranquility after a day with my nieces! I would definitely recommend Readers Retreat and would love to stay there again.

Daniel C,

We had a fabulous week at Readers Retreat Cottage. Countryside views, peace and quiet, with some stunning places to visit. The Cottage was comfortable (especially the bed!!) clean and well equipped - thank you for the extras on arrival! You have been so helpful and friendly - the perfect host! We'll remember 2020 for many reasons but one will definately be our relaxing holiday at Readers Retreat Cottage.

C&J P,
