Originally the village schoolroom, this beautifully converted early Victorian property in the centre of the village offers comfortable, cosy accommodation for 4 people and the family dog.  Waltham is located only a few minutes drive from the beautiful and historic city of Canterbury, yet is surrounded by stunning unspoilt peaceful countryside, perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors, from walking on the Kent Downs to mountain biking in nearby Denge Woods and horse riding at the village stables. The excellent country pub, The Compasses Inn is just a few minutes walk across the field behind the house, a gastro pub awarded Food Pub of the Year 2017.  With Canterbury so close to hand it is worth spending some time visiting the world famous cathedral and exploring this beautiful vibrant city.  With great shopping, superb independent cafes and restaurants and  museums such as The Roman Pavement and the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge, you may need more than one visit. Venture a little further afield to the coast and the traditional seaside towns of Hythe and Sandgate, offer independent shops, antique shops, a miniature steam railway and a lovely esplanade for breathing in the salty sea air.

Reviews

Thank you for a wonderful stay at your charming cottage. The Old Schoolroom is full of character. We had such a warm welcome and really appreciated the jam and marmalade. There is so much to do around and although we have been in Kent a number of times before and love revisiting places, great views from Dover cliffs and lighthouse, Turner Contemporary in Margate, shopping in Tenterden, Sissinghurst to name a few. There is still so much to discover.

family from G,

Thank you so much to the owners. We have felt very much at home in The Old Schoolroom. we really don't want to leave and will be back. The welcome pack was much appreciated.

Previous Customer,

Great base for visiting Canterbury, Whitstable and the local countryside. We had a great time at Howletts Wildlife park and a delicious meal in The compasses Inn. Thank you for the recommendations. Thank you also for the welcome goodies, the marmalade in particular was delicious.

family from H,

A big thank you to the owners for the wonderful stay we had at your cottage. It really was a home from home stay these past days and we have enjoyed our first time in Kent very much. Thank you in particular for the homemade marmalade and all the tips you gave us on things to do nearby. We only managed a few of them hence there's plenty more to explore to come back again. Our time at The Old Schoolroom will always be remembered as the first time our daughter got to ride a horse with saddle and stirrups and our son cut his first tooth.

Previous Customer,

Thank you for letting me and my human family come and stay in your lovely home. I'm afraid I couldn't keep the humans off the furniture but I made them clean up after themselves. Thank you.

Previous Customer,

Thank you so much to the owners for a wonderful stay at The Old Schoolroom. We had a fantastic time and there is so much to do locally. Thanks for everything and making us fee welcome.

Past Customer,

Thank you for our stay in the beautiful Waltham countryside. Although we knew Kent well this wasn't an area we were familiar with but it didn't disappoint. Had a lovely day in Canterbury, always worth a visit. Spent some time in Folkestone and enjoyed spotting the art installation dotted about. Chapel Down vineyard was another great day out for us, just outside Tenterden. We continued to Rye which is a favourite of ours. Particularly enjoyed local villages especially our local meal at the Woolpack Inn, Chilham (dog friendly) and Perrys farm shop cafe in Wye, also dog friendly. If you are in to shopping the Ashford outlet is not far away, all dog friendly. The Devils Kneading Trough is a lovely walk. Sweet cottage, friendly owners and their dog.
